Ivan Totev Turned the First Sod of the Reconstruction of the Ancient Stadium

Regional Governor Ivan Totev launched the construction and conservation activities of the project for the reconstruction of the Ancient Stadium. He and the acting mayor Alexander Dolev made symbolic first sod at the site.

"I am very happy that today, May 10 as we previously announced, we made the first blow with a pneumatic hammer of the Ancient Stadium and now we actually implement the project", said Ivan Totev. Construction and installation activities will continue to the autumn, and the very realization of the project – to 30th April 2012.

This phase of the project "The Ancient Stadium of Philippopolis - Preservation, Rehabilitation and Urban Renewal" is implemented by OCAC Consortium "Archaeology and Restoration." The total cost is 711 Euros 708.88, and the deadline is 15 December 2011.

The symbolic groundbreaking ended with the delivery of the order book of construction supervision. With this act actually start the reconstruction works of the Ancient Stadium.

Stadium is Regional Administration – Plovdiv, and the partners are the Plovdiv Municipality, Association for Cultural Tourism (ACT) and the Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage.

The project "The Ancient Stadium of Philippopolis - Preservation, Rehabilitation and Urban Renewal" is done with grants from the European Financial Mechanism.
