Ivan Totev Talked with Ambassadors for the Renovation of the Ancient Stadium

The Regional Governor of Plovdiv Ivan Totev accepted ambassadors of Norway, Hon. Mrs. Tove Skarstein and of Greece, Hon. Mrs. Danae-Madeleine Koumanakou. The main topic of conversation was the progress of the project “The Ancient Stadium of Philippopolis – Preservation, Rehabilitation and Urban Renewal”, which is financed with a grant from Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein through the European Financial Mechanism.

“The realization of this important project for Plovdiv is done on time, progress is great and we have something to boast with” – with these words Ivan Totev opened the meeting with the ambassadors and the project management team. He once again stressed on the state support for its implementation. This project is one of the few for which the Council of Ministers allocated resources to target and operational advances, which once again shows the will for its implementation, added the governor Ivan Totev.

Team leader Emilia Petrova made a presentation on the development and progress of the project, and to solve upcoming problems. The technical project was presented to the guests at the construction site by architect R. Proykova – member of the team prepared the executive project. The meeting was also attended by First Secretary of Embassy of Greece in Sofia Michalis Gavriilidis and Adelina Vezenkova – representative of the National Coordination Unit in the Council of Ministers.

“I look forward to the official opening of the renovated Аncient Stadium of Plovdiv. I am impressed by what is done and the personal commitment of the Regional Governor Ivan Totev”, said Norwegian Ambassador Hon. Ms. Tove Skarstein. “I am happy about this nice and strong partnership between the Bulgarian and Norwegian side. I spoke with the representatives from the Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage, who visited your town in early June and they were very impressed by what they saw”, Her Excellency added.

Regional Governor Ivan Totev and Ambassador Skarstein talked more about the new programs funded by the European Economic Area by 2014 and Plovdiv opportunities to apply for them. It became clear that Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein will grant almost 127 million Euros for our country. These funds will be financed as projects related to cultural heritage as well as to biodiversity, to the social sector, etc.
